Julie Phillips retains the presidency
9/22/2012
JULIE Phillips is back in for a second year as President of the Barbados Secondary Schools Netball League.
Phillips, who hails from Springer Memorial, will be continuing the work she started when she was elected to the post last calendar year.
During the Annual General Meeting held on the 14th of this month, Phillips and several members of the executive secured their posts with no contest. Moving up in the ranks from his post last year as a Floor Member was Brian Holder of Queen’s College. Holder will pass the year as the league’s Vice President.
Lynette Holder of Princess Margaret takes up the reins as Secretary/Treasurer from Harriet Waithe.
Speaking to the Barbados Advocate yesterday, Phillips took the opportunity to express the heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the executive for Waithe’s sterling service over several years towards the development of netball in Barbados as she held her post from the league’s inception in 1991.
Other members of the committee are: Romalda Douglin - Assistant Secretary/Treasurer; Dawn Waldron-Barrow - Recording Secretary; and Alwyn Babb and Ellen Gittens, who are both Floor Members.
Phillips also stated that the new executive has initiated a mandate to uplift the sport of netball in schools and, by so doing, has rekindled the opening ceremonies which have been missing for a number of years.
The 2012-2013 season will be heralded by an opening ceremony at the Netball Stadium on October 9 at 3:00 p.m. and all teams participating in any of the competitions for the year are required to parade. (MP)
