T&T wins again! – crushes Barbados President’s XI by 8 wickets in 2nd Goodwill T20

9/22/2012

Trinidad and Tobago registered yet another convincing victory over the Barbados President’s XI when the second Goodwill Twenty20 game was held at Kensington Oval on Thursday.

After restricting the home team to 148/4 off their 20 overs, T&T cruised to a decisive victory with 3.5 overs still remaining.

The win gave T&T a 2-0 lead in the three-game series, which concluded yesterday.

Leading the charge for the visitors was opening batsman, William Perkins, who scored a quickfire 57 runs off a mere 34 balls.

Perkins shared in a partnership with Adrian Barath, which almost yielded 100 runs, but was broken six runs shy of the century.

Perkins struck an impressive seven boundaries and four sixes as he brought up his half century from 28 balls before he was removed by West Indies pacer, Kemar Roach, by the run-out route in the 11th over.

The T&T side seemed not fazed by the Bajan bowling attack, which surprisingly did not start with Roach.

Roach did not get the ball until the batsmen looked set in the middle. First change was Martin Nurse, who had earlier made an impressive 55 runs from 47 balls.

However, Nurse’s first over saw him send down four wides in his 10-ball over.

Roach only bowled two overs on the night.

Helping to guide Trinidad to their successful run chase was the unbeaten Barath, who finished on 38 runs from 39 balls, and Evin Lewis with an impressive 34 runs off a mere 19 balls.

Batting first, the President’s XI scored 148 for four off 20 overs after winning the toss.

Nurse’s half century came off 45 balls with six fours and one six and he went on to score 55.

The not out batsmen were skipper Shamarh Brooks on 25 off 14 balls with two fours and one six and Dowrich on seven from six deliveries.

Debutant Renaldo Brathwaite was bowled off stump by left-arm spinner, Yannick Ottley, for 13 off 17 balls as he went on the backfoot to drive through the offside, while Shai Hope was run out by Cooper for 15 off 16 balls following a mix-up with Nurse. Left-hander Nurse was bowled middle stump by fast bowler, Shannon Gabriel, and newcomer Marrodon Bend was brilliantly caught at backward square by Gabriel running from short fine-leg off medium-pacer Cooper for 14 off 22 balls.

A Barbados President’s XI defeated Trinidad & Tobago by 13 runs in the third and final match of the Goodwill Twenty20 series at Pine Basin here yesterday.

Chasing 151 to win off 20 overs, Trinidad & Tobago were restricted to 137 for eight.

Opener Adrian Barath topscored for Trinidad & Tobago with 42 off 38 balls, hitting five fours.

Off-spinner Ashley Nurse was the leading wicket-taker with four for 27 off four overs, while medium-pacer Kyle Mayers picked up two for 22, also off four overs.

The Barbados President’s XI scored 150 for six off 20 overs after winning the toss.

Carter topscored with 53 off 44 balls, striking three fours and three sixes, while fellow left-hander Hinds made 49 off 46 balls with two fours and one six.

Hinds and Carter added 86 in 12.1 overs for the third wicket.

Left-arm spinner, Yannick Ottley, was the leading wicket-taker with four for 30 off four overs.
