The Sheriff rules on the wet

10/5/2010

NOT even the wet and slippery road could stop Roger ‘The Sheriff’ Skeete from registering yet another victory as the Motiring Club Barbados Inc (MCBI) hosted their final event of the year.

The speed event took place at Stewart’s Hill on Sunday and though the rain held off until the very last run it was still a very tricky course to navigate for the drivers.

Some parts of the road were dry and other parts wet before the heavy showers came on the final run of the day which made it even more slippery and impossible for times to improve.

Skeete at the helm of his Virgin Atlantic/Da Costa Mannings Auto Centre/Michelin/Warrens Motors Subaru Impreza WRC S12 led from the start to the finish and his fastest time of 2 mins 00.94 secs came in the second official run as expected.

There were battles brewing through the rest of the field and the first one came for second place between the two wheel drive ‘Giant Killing’ Suzuki Swift of Ian Warren and the four wheel drive Mitsubishi Evolution IX of Geoffrey Noel.

After trading times it was Warren to carried off the second place with a time of two minutes 05.93 seconds.

Noel had to settle for third place with a time of two minutes 06.97 secs.

Both drivers won their class Super Modified 10 was Warren and Production 4 was Noel.
The next battle on the day was for fourth place and the top honours in Super Modified 9 between Neil Armstrong and Josh Read.

Both talented drivers were seen giving it their all in an attempt to edge out the other and with the rain always looming they knew the rain would fall at any given moment.

It was Armstrong who managed to edge out Read in the final run before the heavy shower and this was enough for him to seal the victory in the class with a time of two minutes 8.44 seconds in the Pit Bull Energy Drink/Hankook/Gunk/Electric Avenue Toyota Starlet.

Read rounded off the top five and in the Automotive Art/Baram Services Toyota Starlet was clocked at two minutes 9.46 seconds.

Other class winners were Adrian Linton who won Modified 7 in his Ravensden/Garbage Gobbler/Morris Straker Construction Vauxhall Astra GSi; Jamal Brathwaite won Modified 6 in his Carib AM Electrical/FG Wilson/Autoplus Motors/Meridian Windows/Chicken Pen Racing/Ellesmere Quarries/D2 Racing Suspension/Avon Products/Cutters of Barbados/Freekz Customz Mitsubishi Mirage RS; Michael Worme won Modified 8-A in the Cot Media Group/Dingolay/Speedline Performance Auto/Ullyetts Machine Shop Service/Slowboy Racing Subaru Impreza STi; Harold Morley in the Net2Vu Porsche won Group B; Greg Cozier won the historic Class in his Ford Escort MkII; Sammy Cumberbatch in his F Taylor Insurance/Williams Industries/AutoLink BMW M3 was the Super Modified 11 winner; Sean Fields won Production 3 and Miguel Toppin Production 2.
