    Major changes to traffic flow in lower Bridgetown

The Ministry of Transport and Works advises the public that a number of changes will be made to the traffic flow on the following sections of road in Bridgetown, and will take effect from tomorrow, Sunday, November 22.

The areas are Hincks Street/Princess Alice Highway/Prince Alfred Street/Cowell Street and Lower Broad Street.

The following outlines the proposed changes:

Hincks Street

The section of Hincks Street, from Wharf Road to Prince Alfred Street will be split into three lanes but remain one-way. Two lanes will allow persons to travel from Wharf Road onto Princess Alice Highway while the third lane will be for persons making a right turn onto the northern section of Prince Alfred Street. Motorists will also be able to make the left turn from the southern lane onto the southern section of Prince Alfred Street.

On the section of Hincks Street, from Prince Alfred Street to Cowell Street, two lanes will be assigned to traffic leaving Bridgetown, while only one lane, will be assigned to traffic entering Bridgetown.

NO WAITING BY VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED ON HINCKS STREET.

Princess Alice Highway

The section of Princess Alice Highway from Cowell Street to the entrance of the Bus Terminal will have two lanes assigned to traffic leaving Bridgetown, with one lane for traffic entering Bridgetown.

The section of Princess Alice Highway from the Bus Terminal to Prescod Boulevard will be a four lane division. Two lanes will be for traffic leaving Bridgetown while the other two is for traffic entering Bridgetown. However, one lane will end at the entrance of the Bus Terminal while the other lane will be all other traffic proceeding to Bridgetown.

NO WAITING BY VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED ON PRINCESS ALICE HIGHWAY.

Cowell Street

Two-way traffic will be allowed along the section of Cowell Street from Hincks Street to the BTI Wharf car-park.

The section of Cowell Street, from the Princess Alice Highway to Lower Broad Street will remain one-way with two lanes. One lane will allow motorists to turn right onto the Princess Alice Highway. However, the other lane will allow persons to turn left onto the Princess Alice Highway. Traffic will now be allowed to cross from the section of Cowell Street, from Lower Broad Street to Hincks Street, to the section of Cowell Street and the BTI Wharf car-park.

Motorists on the Princess Alice Highway approaching from Prescod Boulevard, wanting to access the BTI Wharf car-park and surrounding areas will now have to continue onto Prince Alfred Street, onto Lower Broad Street and then onto Cowell Street.

NO WAITING BY VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED ON COWELL STREET.

Prince Alfred Street
The section of Prince Alfred Street from Hincks Street to Lower Broad Street will remain one-way with traffic travelling towards Lower Broad Street.

Vehicles will not be allowed to park on this section of the street.

The section of Prince Alfred Street from Hincks Street will become two-way with motorists being allowed to exit and make left turns onto Hincks Street.

Vehicles will not be allowed to park on this section of the street. However, loading and off-loading is restricted to one hour.

Section of Lower Broad Street from Prince Alfred Street to Cowell Street
The road will remain one-way in two lanes.

Vehicles will not be allowed to park is this area.

Two private coach parking spaces and one University of the West Indies coach parking space will be marked on the southern side of Lower Broad Street. One loading and off-loading parking space (with a one hour limit) will also be allocated on the southern side.

St. George Street

Road to remain one-way.

Vehicles will not be allowed to park on this section of the street. However, loading and off-loading is restricted to one hour.

In addition to the above noted changes, the Ministry of Transport and Works informs motorists that Crumpton Street in Bridgetown will be closed on Saturday November 21 and Sunday November 22 to facilitate repairs to a collapsed manhole. The work will start at 7.30 a.m. each day.

The road will reopen to traffic on Monday November 23.

Public Service vehicles which normally ply Crumpton Service should divert on Hall's Road.
The Ministry apologises for any inconvenience which may be caused.
