MANY Barbadian dignitaries came out on Wednesday evening to celebrate the 63rd Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China with Ambassador Xu Hong and the Chinese community in Barbados.

Led by Governor General, Sir Elliott Belgrave, the Barbadian dignitaries included Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Chief Justice Marston Gibson, Ministers of Government, Members of Parliament, including the Speaker of the House, many high-standing members of the private sector, and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps.

Ambassador Xu Hong highlighted that the presence of such distinguished guests points to the profound friendship between China and Barbados.

“Since I assumed my post as the Chinese Ambassador April this year, I have been much impressed by the sound friendship between our two countries and two peoples, as well as the great potential for future development,” Ambassador Xu Hong stated.

Though impressed with the exchanges between China and Barbados up to this time, the Chinese Ambassador called for both sides to redouble their efforts.

“I believe a better future of our bilateral relations requires our co-creation. Let’s redouble our efforts and advance our practical co-operation continually to promote the welfare of our two peoples and to push our bilateral relations to a new level,” Ambassador Xu Hong added.

Prime Minister Stuart responded to the Chinese Ambassador, echoing his sentiments of hope for the continued growth of the relationship between the two countries.

“We look forward to the deepening of that relationship and the further enrichment of it. The fingerprints of the People’s Republic of China are being steadily observed right across Barbados as evidence of technical and other types of co-operation continue to manifest,” PM Stuart stated. (AN)
