Approach to be assessed
9/14/2012
THE recently held townhall meetings on human trafficking will be evaluated soon, with the view of determining whether or not the National Task Force for the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons will continue with this approach to sensitise the Barbadian public about this worldwide issue.
Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs, Adriel Brathwaite, who is also Chairman of the Task Force, made that disclosure earlier this week to the media, after attending the opening of a workshop on trafficking of persons. Brathwaite also told the media that based on the initial discussions they have had, it is suggested that the townhall meetings were well received.
“We need to sit and look at what has happened over the last couple of months in terms of the meetings we have had and then make a determination as to whether or not we will proceed along the same lines or have ads in the newspapers; have more GIS ads on the radio and television. We need to do that,” he said.
Brathwaite added, “I believe that our committee is having a meeting sometime this month and that is part of what I would do then, have a look and then decide our next steps over the next couple of months.”
The Attorney General maintained that whatever their approach, it will be designed to ensure that more people are aware of what to look for with respect to human trafficking. (JRT)
