New Junior Monarchs

If ever there was an example of perseverance paying off, the recent Junior Monarch Finals result would be it.

On Saturday night, Barbados crowned two new winners in the calypso competition – Jazz ‘Jazz-Z’ Gittens in the 8-12 category and Aisha ‘Mandisa’ Butcher in the 13-18 category – both of who came in second place in last year’s contest.

Singing ‘Cricket’, Jazz-Z beat out second-placed Asher ‘Dynamo’ Murrell, third-placed Winette Millington and fourth-placed Moesha ‘Mighty Princess’ Elder. Mandisa sang ‘My Advice’ to take the crown, leaving Kadé ‘Young Dia’ Mascoll, defending title-holder Samantha ‘Sammy G’ Greaves and Adela Payne to take second, third and fourth place, respectively.
