Bigger, better show in store at Soca Royale 2012

7/20/2012

IT has been described as one of the biggest productions in the English-speaking Caribbean, and this year, the MQI 98.1 The One Soca Royale promises to be even bigger.

Yesterday was the official launch of the event – which comes off at Bushy Park on Sunday July 29 – and which will see local artistes do battle in the Sweet Soca and Party Monarch competitions. Both winners will walk away with the keys to a brand new Kia Rio, which was unveiled at MQI headquarters yesterday morning.

While thanking the sponsors for their continued support, NCF Marketing Officer Sherwin Cumberbatch made the point that while competitions have long been established in Barbados, artistes still need to be adequately compensated for their time and effort.

“Indeed, recording and in most cases performing is not a cheap feat. Adequate resources are needed to make the most impactful performance as our festival-goers’ demand for excellence and creativity increases.

“It is safe to assume that these added costs may deter even the most eager artiste. However, through the efforts of our corporate partners, MQI, these competitions have certainly become worth their while,” he said.

MQI Executive Sales Consultant Johnny Tudor commended the NCF for the high standard of the show, which he says is at an international level. He highlighted the courage of MQI Marketing and Sales Manager Margaret Hoyte during a difficult economic climate to provide these vehicles for the winners of the competitions. He also thanked the public’s support for helping to give MQI “bragging rights” for making Kia the number one car in Barbados.

Event Producer Adisa Andwele said with the introduction of more rehearsal time and a full technical rehearsal before the event, the level of the production and the entire spectacle is expected to be even higher than last year.

Antonio Moore of Freekz Customz was also on hand to share some of the enhancements that will be provided by the company, including Freekz Customz Finixx tyres with self-seal technology, which means that they will never goes flat.

NCF representative Margaret Allman-Goddard reminded patrons of the various restrictions on the day, including the no glass bottle policy, coolers no bigger than two feet by two feet and using only the event sponsors’ beverages. She noted that ice and drinks will also be on sale at the event.
