Barbados leg of Diamond Jubilee gets underway


THE two-day Royal visit of the Earl and Countess of Wessex Prince Edward and Princess Sophie, officially began as they stepped off the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Fort Rosalie at the Bridgetown Port yesterday morning.

The historic visit marks the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne. Her Majesty¡¯s Diamond Jubilee celebrations are taking place across the world during 2012.

Their Highnesses arrived at the Bridgetown Port on board the HMS Royal Fleet Auxiliary Fort Rosalie. There, they were received by Acting Governor General Elliott Belgrave and Mrs. Belgrave, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Chief Justice Marston Gibson, Minister of International Business and International Transport George Hutson, Co-ordinating Minister Dr. Esther Byer-Suckoo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Maxine McClean and other distinguished dignitaries.

Head Girl of the Princess Margaret Secondary School, Aisha Griffith, presented a bouquet to the Countess, who was resplendently dressed in a beige and gold sleeveless dress, with a spectacular hat undoubtedly from the finest milliner.

The Earl received a Royal Salute and Their Royal Highnesses inspected the Guard of Honour before heading to the House of Assembly for a Joint Sitting of Parliament. (JH)
