BARBADIAN women are being encouraged to do their part to help fight the scourge of HIV and AIDS – simply by shopping.
This as the MAC Cosmetics centre in Cave Shepherd unveiled its sexy new limited edition line for Fall/Winter called ‘Style Black’. Right in step with the look for the fall season in many fashion collections, the new line ventures into the deep end of the dark view with new MAC signature shades. On Friday the public got to see the new shades and meet MAC’s Pro Senior Artist, Gisel Cavillo who demonstrated some of the ways the new line can be used.

While demonstrating the innovations of the Blackware Glimmerglass product on Miss Barbados World 2009 Leah Marville, Cavillo also encouraged the Barbadian women to take part in the Viva Glam campaign.

The MAC AIDS Fund is a leader in the fight against HIV and AIDS, supporting organisations worldwide that provide daily essentials and direct care services to men, women and children affected by this epidemic. Founded in 1994, the MAC AIDS Fund is unwavering in its commitment to further AIDS awareness and education, while confronting the social issues associated with AIDS. Since its inception, the MAC AIDS Fund has raised more than $150 million.

The brainchild of Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo – the co-founders of MAC Cosmetics – the MAC AIDS Fund has launched five Viva Glam product lines, each supported with spectacular advertising campaigns featuring celebrity superstars such as RuPaul, Christina Aguilera, Linda Evangelista, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Elton John, Lil’ Kim, and k.d. lang.

These celebrities also serve as spokespeople for the fund, educating MAC customers and the public at large about HIV/AIDS. One hundred per cent of Viva Glam sales go directly into the MAC AIDS Fund to support community-based HIV/AIDS initiatives in the USA and around the world.

Cavillo noted that along with the limited edition line of ‘Style Black’, Barbadians would be supporting a fantastic cause when they buy the Viva Glam lipsticks which are identified by their special red and silver cases.

On Saturday at the Barbados Hilton, Cavillo will be conducting two workshops at 9:00 am and 1:00 pm where 30 customers from Cave Shepherd will learn hands-on ways to do their make-up and use the MAC products.
