BEDY ferry service announces another delay

11/28/2009

ANOTHER delay has hit the launch of the BEDY Oceanline ferry service that is expected to service several islands, including Barbados.

The management of the fast ferry system has however given assurances to the general public that it the service is still on stream. In a statement added to the BEDY website yesterday, Chief Executive Officer, Benjamin Ross, explained that, “This change is due to unforeseen difficulties that we encountered that were beyond our control and we further underestimated the time it would take to put the necessary correcting measures and structures in place. Presently we are working out some logistical issues and would soon make an announcement with respect to the commencement date”.

Ross said that the company is looking forward to offering a safe and reliable travel solutions to the Eastern Caribbean, and noted the contribution of the governments of the respective islands. Previously BEDY officials said the commencement of the new ferry service was delayed as its staff undertook training. The Grenada-based BEDY Ocean Line Fast Ferry Service was originally slated to start service on October 19th.

Previously, BEDY Travel Marketing Director, Arthur Hosten, said the service was in the process of completing its new schedule, which would be posted on-line today. The company will then give customers one week within which to comment on the schedule and is then planning to announce the new launch date.

The service will offer round trip voyages between Barbados, Trinidad, St. Lucia, Grenada, and St. Vincent, for between US $120 and US $140, plus VAT in the relevant territories. The ferry is also expected to provide an alternative to regional airlines, with travel between the islands slated to take approximately three hours. The high-speed vessel will seat between 260 and 300 passengers, who would also have allowances of two 60-pound suitcases which could facilitate the inter-island exchange and sale of produce.
