Training for businesses still crucial at this time

8/16/2009

Despite the challenging economic times, businesses should not shy away from training their employees.

In fact, General Manager of the Advantage Caribbean Institute Limited, Rudy Grant, maintains that during these challenging economic times it is important for individuals to ensure that they engage in good and effective training in order to be better able to deal with the challenges effectively.

At a press conference on Friday before taking Minister of Education and Human Resource Development Ronald Jones on a tour of their Belleville facility, Grant contended that businesses should not allow the reduction of training to be one of their cost cutting measures, as they are forced to look at ways in which they can become more efficient as they can cope with the reduction in business activity.

He said that his organisation, the only Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for Learning Solutions in the Eastern Caribbean, is committed to providing training for businesses that will enhance their productivity and efficiency.

“It is very important, particularly in a time of economic challenges, that we seek to effectively and efficiently utilise the resources that we have, and that we utilise business intelligence in order to improve company performance and improve individual performance. Very often we speak about the cost of labour in Barbados as being high and we do not as often reflect on the productivity of labour... but if we become more productive, we are able to reduce the cost of doing business. What we are doing here at Advantage Caribbean Institute Limited is to ensure that by the programmes we deliver, we are able to provide individuals with the competencies to be more efficient, more effective and be more productive,” Grant stated.

He disclosed that they provide value-for-money training in some 200 courses, ranging from certifications in Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO Systems, as well as the Certified Business Professional. He further stated that their training is not limited to the classroom setting, but that they are also providing courses online.

On another note, the General Manager said that Advantage Caribbean Institute Limited has also spread its wings and has recently opened an office in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He said that they are intent on exporting their services and taking full advantage of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy. This, he said, not only expands their business, but helps to ensure that they are able to make a contribution that will help to enhance the foreign exchange reserves. (JRT)
