Sinckler: Update on Four Seasons project to come

FOR the second time in as many week,s Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Christopher Sinckler, has indicated that the stalled Four Seasons project is set to get off the ground again, and has promised that he will soon update the public on the matter on the floor of Parliament.

Delivering the Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals on August 16, Minister Sinckler revealed that Government had recently signed off on an agreement to sell the tourism project, but stopped short of providing crucial details about the agreement or the identity of the buyer, indicating that such particulars would come during a debate in the House of Assembly. Speaking to the media on Monday, Sinckler reiterated that the multi-million dollar project, located on the site of the old Paradise Beach Hotel, had been returned to the private sector, “as it really properly ought to be”.

He again remained mum on the specifics about the new developers, but noted that he expects that in time they will speak about their plans for the project, which started experiencing difficulties in 2008 and eventually ground to a halt in 2009. The Finance Minister also indicated that details about Government’s involvement in the project will be spelt out once the House resumes following the summer recess, which ends on October 25th.

“We will speak in terms of the Government, of what our commitments are in terms of what we have done... everything that has taken place at the Four Seasons project since the Government got involved in 2008/2009. I will do a ministerial statement in Parliament, [and] I believe that if possible, we will open it up to debate, so other members can contribute,” he said.

The Finance and Economic Affairs Minister said that employees of his ministry are currently preparing “a full and complete statement” on the matter, which will show a chronology of the events that have taken place regarding Four Seasons. (JRT)
