Minister treats children to day of fun

It was a full day of fun and excitement for 70 youngsters from the St. Michael Central constituency, who were treated to an outing by the area’s Member of Parliament, Steven Blackett.

Speaking to The Barbados Advocate yesterday at the Casa Grande Airport Hotel and Resort, the Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development said the activity forms “part of the St. Michael Central Foundation outreach programme”.

He further stated that the children were mostly students from the constituency who sat the Barbados Secondary Schools Entrance Examination (BSSEE) in May, as well as some young persons from the community who attend the annual outing.

“We have done this every year to celebrate them and give them a chance to wind down, kick back and enjoy themselves. Today we went to Three Houses Park where we had lunch over there and now we are over here at Casa Grande where the children are enjoying the pool, and just now we will go over to the bumper car rides and other activities,” he said.

Blackett added that this is the eighth year for the event and it was “in collaboration this year for the very first time with the St. Michael Central Constituency Council”.

Looking ahead, the minister said the next activity to be conducted by the St. Michael Central Foundation will be the school items assistance programme. This yearly initiative, which aids parents from the constituency with acquiring school supplies for their young charges, will be rolled out towards the end of August. (MG)
