Year of Productivity officially launched

BARBADIANS are being urged to G.E.T U.P!

“Getting Everyone To Understand Productivity” is an initiative of the Productivity Council, as it launches 2017 as the Year of Productivity.

During the official launch on Friday night at Baobab Towers, Chairman of the Productivity Council, Dr. Akhentoolove Corbin, said that the importance of productivity in national development cannot be understated.

His comments came as he also revealed that the Council is changing to be more relevant and meaningful and has adopted a renewed strategic direction.
Dr. Corbin said the goal of the Year of Productivity is to elevate productivity to such a level that it practically becomes a part of each citizen’s DNA. “In time, each Barbadian must be denoted by and must embody the characteristics of Pride, of Industry and Productivity. Having said this, we recognise only too well the shift that needs to take place in our national consciousness if this vision is to be realised,” he said.

Additionally, Dr. Corbin told specially invited guests during the launch, that the Council also recognises that in Barbados, there is a need for meaningful an relevant partnerships. “We are of the view that he Barbados Social Partnership remains a valid model to facilitate sustainable growth in our dear country. We acknowledge that there are issues related to the Social Partnership that need revision, restructuring and auctioning, but that in no way invalidates the model and provide benefits of our Social Partnership.” To this end he made a call to work together to fix these matter to their mutual benefit.

He noted that by the end of the initiative, every Barbadian should have a better understanding of productivity and their own relationship to it. “How they both impact and rare impacted by it and most of all the importance of excellence as part of improving productivity, the general well-being of the nation and its people.”

The year of activities will include Productivity Champions, the first of whom was Prime Minister the Rt Hon Freundel Stuart. It will also include Parish of the Month, Ministry/Government Department of the Month; Business of the Month (private sector). A Productivity Workbook will be launched in primary schools; a National Productivity Badge will be made available through the Girl Guides and the Boy Scouts Associations and there will also a productivity pledge and a mascot.
